Sid Irwin's Visit
21 October 2001

Our guest on 21 October was the Venerable Sid Irwin, priest of this parish during the 1980's, who led the way in the rebuilding of Saint James' church.  Many parishioners had the chance to renew their friendships with Sid as we celebrated with a potluck lunch after the 10 o'clock service.

On behalf of the parish, Pamela Best presented Sid with a commemorative plate marking the 125 years of our parish life.

Sid recalled those days almost twenty years ago, when such an enormous effort went into the creation of a new building.  Members of the congregation did the entire interior finish – door and window frames, painting, as well as much of the plumbing and wiring.  Many parishioners remember both Sid and Isabel Irwin working hard with the congregation on the finishing of the new church; Sid installed much of the trim, and fitted many of the old church kitchen cupboards into the Sacristy.
