Saving Private Vaughan
Saturday 28 November 2009

Saving Private Percy Vaughan's memory, at least.... During November we recall the sacrifices of those killed in war to preserve our freedom.  On 28 November Barry Moloney recounted to the Men's Group and guests the story of Private Percy Vaughan of this parish, killed in action on 22 February 1918.  Private Vaughan was the grandson of William Vaughan, one of the founders of Saint James' parish in 1876.  Barry's fascinating story was the result of some two years of careful genealogical research, going back to 18th century Ireland, and bringing us up to the present day.  Many thanks, Barry!
