Then we went up to the church for the main event. We sang 'Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah' and 'Jerusalem'. We witnessed a spirited hornpipe, and saw the entry of Britannia, complete with trident and shield. This was accompanied by the singing of 'Rule Britannia', together with a good deal of cheering and flag waving from the liveliest section of the audience (the Saint James' crew). When we got to the pièce de résistance, 'Land of Hope and Glory', the scene bordered on pandemonium.
